Iranian president’s visit to Pakistan: Raisi aims to repair strained relations and raises Kashmir issue

In an attempt to repair strained relations with Pakistan, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is on a three-day visit to the South Asian country to discuss religious, cultural, diplomatic, investment and security issues. . The visit came after both countries launched attacks on each other’s alleged terrorist hideouts.

Iran and Pakistan have now decided to cooperate in the fight against terrorism. The two countries signed at least eight documents promoting cooperation in various fields. The two presidents also discussed ways to promote trade and communication between the two countries.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif raised the Kashmir issue during bilateral high-level talks. However, Raisi did not show similar enthusiasm in responding to regional tensions. Instead, he escalated issues surrounding the Israel-Gaza war and how Iran continues to work with the Palestinians and support those fighting oppression.

Both Pakistan and Iran have accused each other of supporting and harboring militants and militant groups. In early January, Iran launched airstrikes against suspected terrorist hideouts in Balochistan province.

In response to this attack, Pakistan used lethal drones and rockets to attack Iran’s Siestan and Balochistan province. Since the attack, both countries have refrained from escalating tensions.
