Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney late night on Monday congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Pakistan’s peace efforts that culminated in the temporary ceasefire and led to the recently held talks between the United States and Iran, hosted by Pakistan
According to the statement by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on X, during their warm and cordial telephonic conversation, the two leaders also exchanged views on Pakistan-Canada bilateral relations and expressed their desire to work together to enhance cooperation in agriculture, clean energy, mines and minerals, as well as to enhance Canadian investments in Pakistan.
“PM Shehbaz appreciated Canada’s endorsement and support for Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. He highlighted that the US-Iran negotiations were an important step towards peace and assured that Pakistan would continue with its efforts to urge both parties to maintain the ceasefire and make meaningful progress towards de-escalation and regional peace and stability,” read the statement.
It further added that both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination, while the prime minister reiterated his invitation to the Canadian prime minister to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his kind convenience.

Nearly 24-hour-long negotiations between the United States and Iran concluded in Islamabad on Sunday with both sides digging in on core demands yet leaving the door open for further engagement.
The talks, which began on Saturday afternoon, initially took place indirectly before transitioning into rare face-to-face engagement. Negotiations stretched deep into the night and into Sunday morning, underscoring both the complexity of the issues and the seriousness of the effort.

For Pakistan, hosting the talks was both a diplomatic gamble and an opportunity to reassert its relevance on the global stage. In a televised statement at the conclusion of the talks, Dar thanked both sides for responding to Islamabad’s call for a ceasefire and agreeing to negotiations.
