A map of agricultural nitrogen surplus across China from 2000 to 2022 has been created, known as CANSD v1.0. Other research has also focused on nitrogen surplus and its effects in various countries, including the United States and India. These studies have examined nitrogen mass balance data and the impact of agricultural practices on nitrogen surplus and related issues, such as water shortage.
