Research has shed light on the hydroclimate of the southwest USA over the last six glacial-interglacial cycles. A study of a calcite deposit from a southern Nevada cave has revealed 580,000 years of climate history. However, the specific factors controlling the southwest USA hydroclimate are still being explored, with various studies pointing to different influences such as orbital forcing, ocean temperatures, and monsoon patterns.
