Research is being conducted on the present-day kinematics of alaska and western canada, with studies focusing on various aspects such as aseismic slip, earthquake ruptures, and tectonic block motion. The use of gps measurements and geodynamic models is helping to investigate the effects of mantle flow and viscosity structure on surface velocities in the region. Different studies are examining the tectonic activity in specific areas, including the alaska-aleutian subduction zone and the st. elias orogen.
