A bioluminescent deep-sea polychaete has been found near Minamidaito Island, Japan, within the genus Aricidea. The discovery is part of a broader observation of bioluminescence in various marine species. However, reports also mention bioluminescent findings in other species and locations, including a polycirrus species in shallow coastal waters and a terrestrial snail genus, suggesting that bioluminescence may be more widespread across different ecosystems.
