A novel gene-therapy approach has shown success in functionally curing HIV in some monkeys. The approach is part of a broader range of strategies being explored for HIV treatment and potential cure, including CAR-T cell therapy and gene editing techniques. However, the effectiveness of these approaches in humans, and specifically the ability of certain gene therapies to prevent viral rebound, is still being studied and debated.
