Research suggests that acid-sensing ion channels may play a role in various diseases, including cancer and neurodegenerative disorders. Acid-sensing ion channel 3 is being explored as a potential therapeutic target for controlling the growth of glioblastoma cancer stem cells. The function and modulation of acid-sensing ion channels, including acid-sensing ion channel 1a, are also being studied in relation to other conditions, such as inflammatory immune diseases and cardiovascular function.
