Research suggests that astrocyte activity plays a role in the formation of long-term memories in mice. Astrocytes, previously considered support cells, may be actively involved in memory processes, including the persistence of aversive memories and emotional memories. The findings appear to challenge a long-held belief about the function of these brain cells.
