The Bengal government's legal expenses have exceeded ₹75 crore in 2022-23. The government has also been ordered to pay compensation of Rs 766 crore to Tata Motors over the closure of its Singur plant. Additionally, the state has paid notable legal fees, including to a prominent lawyer, amid its various legal cases.
