However, the relationship between hospital sink drain microbiomes and antibiotic resistance is complex, with studies also exploring other factors such as the maternal-infant oral microbiome and the microbiome of handwashing sinks in different hospital contexts. The exact nature of the connection between sink drain microbiomes and antibiotic resistance is still being investigated.
