Google has launched a new commerce platform, referred to as Agentic Commerce or the Universal Commerce Protocol, which is intended to facilitate shopping using AI agents. The platform is being developed with the participation of retailers such as Etsy and Wayfair, and possibly others like Shopify. The new protocol is expected to power next-generation AI shopping, although details of its functionality and scope are not entirely clear.
