Research is being conducted on the global upper ocean dissolved oxygen budget and its relationship to the biological carbon pump. Studies are examining various factors that contribute to ocean deoxygenation, including diapycnal oxygen transport and the role of the Southern Ocean. The findings aim to constrain uncertainties in projections of marine deoxygenation and better understand the complex processes involved in oceanic oxygenation and carbon cycling.
