Research suggests that humans may emit a distinct odor during epileptic seizures that can be detected by dogs. Dogs have been found to be able to detect this odor, and in some cases, may even be able to predict when a seizure is about to occur. The ability of dogs to detect seizure odors has been studied, although it is unclear if other animals, such as cats, may also possess this ability.
