Research suggests that a weakened solubility pump drove carbon dioxide outgassing in the subantarctic region during the deglacial period. The role of ocean dynamics and biological processes in this outgassing is being studied, with some findings indicating that upper ocean circulation and ventilation in certain regions may have also played a part. The interplay between these factors and their impact on atmospheric carbon dioxide levels is still being explored.
