Researchers have made direct measurements of a colloidal glass-former, observing growing amorphous order and dynamic correlations. The studies, which examined the behavior of colloidal liquids and glasses, revealed various phenomena, including surface melting and changes in cooperatively rearranging regions. The findings appear to shed light on the structure and dynamics of supercooled liquids near the glass transition.
