Research is exploring the role of the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) in membrane repair, which may contribute to tumor resistance and delay cell death. The ESCRT complex appears to play a part in protecting cancer cells against various forms of cell death, including pyroptosis. Studies are investigating how preventing ESCRT-dependent membrane repair could enhance antitumor immune responses.
