Pollution of antibiotics and resistance-driving chemicals has been found in an urban river network in Malawi, posing environmental hazards. The role of microplastics in potentially contributing to antimicrobial resistance is a concern, while possible solutions such as phytoremediation and harnessing beneficial bacteria are being explored. The issue of antibiotic resistance is also being considered in a broader context, including its implications for human health and the environment.
