Energizer has designed a new button battery with features intended to protect children. The battery is reported to have properties that alert parents or caregivers if it is swallowed, and may also cause a visible effect, such as dyeing a child's mouth blue. The effectiveness of this new design as a solution to prevent child deaths or injuries from swallowing batteries is still being considered.
