A study has found that extreme heat in India may cause a significant number of excess deaths. Estimates suggest that one day of extreme heat could result in around 3,400 excess deaths. The actual annual toll may be higher, potentially ranging from 3,400 to 30,000 excess deaths per year, with the poorest states being disproportionately affected.
