Research has led to the development of an exome-wide genetic risk score to predict high myopia across different populations. Genome-wide association analyses have also been conducted to better understand refractive error and its genetic components. Additionally, a specific genetic factor, increased PRSS56 expression, has been identified as a potential causal factor and therapeutic target for high myopia.
