Mars is being studied to gain insight into "marginal" exoplanets. Research on Mars and other topics, including cosmic rays and stellar flybys, is underway, with some studies also focusing on clouds of sand on distant planets. The connection between these various areas of research and the study of Mars is not entirely clear.
