Hawaii is converting waste plastic into road asphalt, with some efforts focusing on ocean plastic and abandoned fishing nets. The plastic waste, which also includes household plastic, is being used to create pavement for roads, at least one of which is an experimental road in Oahu. The use of plastic waste in road construction appears to be showing promise, with one report indicating that it did not lead to an increase in microplastic dust.
