Research suggests a link between certain cancers and an increased risk of herpes zoster, also known as shingles. Some studies also indicate that vaccination may reduce the risk of not only shingles, but also other conditions such as dementia, heart disease, and certain cancers. The relationship between viral infections, including herpes zoster, and various chronic diseases is being explored in multiple areas of research.
