Research is being conducted on surface faulting, including the 1983 Idaho Lost River Fault, to better understand fault displacement and hazard models. Studies are utilizing various methods, such as airborne LiDAR and seismic profiling, to examine fault behavior in different regions, including the US and Italy. The focus of these studies appears to be on understanding complex fault systems and their potential for large earthquakes.
