A new ransomware, referred to as HybridPetya, has been found to bypass UEFI Secure Boot, allowing it to maliciously encrypt hard drives. The ransomware is said to exploit a UEFI vulnerability, with some reports specifying the use of a particular exploit, to bypass Secure Boot on certain systems. The affected systems are described as outdated or legacy systems, suggesting that newer systems may not be vulnerable.
