Researchers have observed chimpanzees in the wild applying insects to open wounds, a behavior that may be a form of self-medication. This behavior has been noted in East African chimpanzees, specifically in Uganda. The use of insects to tend to wounds appears to be a previously unseen behavior in animals, suggesting that treating others' injuries may not be unique to humans.
