Research has been conducted on the use of certain medications, including GLP-1 receptor agonists, to treat alcohol use disorder. Some studies suggest that these medications, which are also used for other purposes such as weight loss, may be effective in reducing heavy drinking and cravings. However, the effectiveness of these treatments is still being evaluated and their use for this purpose is considered promising but not yet fully established.
