Research suggests a link between lower-crustal earthquakes in southern Tibet and the eclogitization of dry metastable granulite. Studies using seismic imaging and earthquake data have shed light on the complex dynamics of the lower crust in the region, including the role of crustal faults and the effects of earthquakes on metamorphism. The structure and composition of the Tibetan crust, including the presence or absence of a mafic layer, are also being investigated to better understand the underlying mechanisms.
