The Maha Bodhi temples have been included on the UNESCO World Heritage list. However, the site has also been the subject of other recent developments, including protests and a visit by a high-ranking official from Myanmar, as well as reports of potential new discoveries and a reopening after a covid-19 shutdown. The temples, considered a significant site for buddhism, have also been discussed in terms of a potential joint heritage bid and a corridor plan.
