Research from the PIONEER trial is providing insight into the use of megestrol in combination with letrozole for women with early-stage estrogen-receptor-positive breast cancer. The study suggests that megestrol, which is also used to treat hot flashes, may enhance the effectiveness of hormone therapy in this type of cancer, even at low doses. The findings indicate that megestrol has anti-breast cancer activity when used in conjunction with anti-estrogen therapy.
