Research is exploring how mitochondria regulate protein production, including the role of membrane insertion of mitochondrial-encoded proteins in controlling ribosome decoding speed. The study of mitochondrial protein synthesis and its regulation is also being investigated in the context of disease, including cancer. The mechanisms and quality control of mitochondrial protein production are being examined through various approaches, including structural studies and in situ analysis.
