A national coastal wetland mapping effort has been conducted over the last four decades, resulting in an annual classification with high accuracy. However, reports also indicate that some coastal wetlands, such as those in the US, are experiencing loss and shifting dynamics, while others, like African inland wetlands, may be increasing in area. The status and trends of wetlands appear to vary by region, with some areas experiencing conservation successes and others facing ongoing challenges.
