A new infrared spectroscopy technique has been developed to improve the analysis of mars-analogue basalt samples. The technique's applications and implications for mars exploration are being studied through various laboratory and field experiments, including the analysis of samples from locations such as iceland and india. Research using this and other techniques is providing insights into the composition and history of mars, including evidence of past cold and wet conditions.
