Soil acidification is reported to negatively impact a defense mechanism in watermelon, making it more susceptible to Fusarium wilt. The soil microbiome's natural ability to fight off pathogenic Fusarium infections may be suppressed by acidification. Altering the soil microbial community, possibly through methods like dazomet application, may help mitigate the issue.
