Scientists have created laser "whirlpools" that can spin tiny cells without touching them. However, it is unclear if this development is related to recent research on tiny magnetic whirlpools, known as skyrmions, which have been found to have properties similar to high-temperature superconductors. The connection between these laser whirlpools and other scientific concepts, such as pentamode metamaterials, is also unclear.
