Scientists have successfully grown whole models of human embryos in a lab without using sperm or eggs. These embryo models, which have been developed to last for at least 14 days, have features such as a brain and a beating heart. The breakthrough has been achieved by researchers, including a team at Cambridge, and may provide insights into why some pregnancies fail, although it is not yet clear if stem cells can be used to create life.
