A second prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) pet scan can change treatment for a significant portion of prostate cancer patients, with estimates ranging from over a third to nearly half. The use of PSMA pet/ct scans is being studied for its potential to guide treatment and improve imaging in prostate cancer cases. The scans may have a major impact on the treatment of patients with prostate cancer, although the exact extent of this impact is still being researched.
