Research suggests that silica is unlikely to be soluble in upper crustal carbonatite melts. The findings may be related to the formation of certain geological deposits, including rare earth deposits and zircon formation. The process of magmatic crystallisation and the role of deep-seated magma chambers are also being studied in this context.
