Biomass burning aerosols in the stratosphere are reported to have compensated for record-breaking ozone depletion over the Arctic in spring 2020. The phenomenon is being studied in relation to stratospheric plumes, including one from the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai eruption. Research on the topic includes satellite quantification of methane oxidation in these plumes.
