Cases of syphilis in newborns are increasing, despite a decline in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in adults. The rise in congenital syphilis has been reported nationally, with some areas, such as Mississippi, experiencing significant growth in maternal syphilis. A shortage of a US-made drug used to treat congenital syphilis has also been reported, amid the ongoing increase in cases.
