Research suggests that certain essential oils, including thyme and cinnamon, may have antimicrobial properties that can inhibit multidrug resistant bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The potential of these oils to alter virulence transcripts and prevent biofilm production is also being explored. Studies are investigating the use of plant essential oils, alone or in combination with other agents, as a possible alternative to traditional antibiotics in various applications, including food preservation and skincare.
