Research has been conducted on the role of environmental, social, and governance (esg) performance during the covid-19 pandemic. Studies suggest that esg may provide protection during market stress, with some evidence indicating a positive relationship between esg performance and stock prices. However, the effectiveness and direction of esg ratings and their impact on firms' motivation to innovate sustainably is still being explored and debated.
