Tidal locking is a phenomenon being discussed in relation to the moon and exoplanets. It appears that some planets, including one recently found, are tidally locked, resulting in perpetual day on one side and night on the other, which may still support life. The concept of tidal locking is also being used to explain why the same side of the moon always faces the earth.
