Researchers have bioengineered hookworms to produce and deliver therapeutic drugs within a living host. The genetically modified hookworms are capable of secreting specific antibodies, including an anti-tetrodotoxin antibody, into the host's bloodstream. The bioengineered hookworms have been tested in preclinical hosts, including hamsters, to deliver therapeutic antibodies.
