Rats are being used to detect tuberculosis in human samples. These rats, referred to as 'HeroRATs', are able to identify the disease quickly, with one report suggesting they can do so in as little as 3 seconds. The use of these trained rats is part of efforts to combat tuberculosis in Tanzania, where they are also used to detect landmines.
