Zambia has canceled plans to dam the Luangwa, one of Africa's longest free-flowing rivers. Additionally, plans to build an open-pit copper mine in a national park have also been canceled. Other dam projects in the region, such as those in Tanzania and the DR Congo, appear to be moving forward.
