Research on the laminar organization of cellular microcircuits is shedding light on human interictal epileptiform discharges. Studies using various methods, including advanced neural probes and different forms of stimulation, are revealing patterns and potential ways to modulate or prevent epileptic brain activity. The findings suggest that different approaches, such as electrical stimulation, multisensory flicker, and thermal neuromodulation, may be effective in reducing interictal epileptiform discharges.
