NASA's Curiosity rover has found more than 20 organic compounds on Mars, including some that are being reported for the first time. The discovery was made in a rock from Gale Crater and includes carbon-based molecules, some of which are linked to the chemistry that can precede RNA and DNA. The findings suggest that Mars can preserve ancient biosignatures, but the origin of these compounds is unclear.
