A sustained human outbreak of a new MPXV clade I lineage has been reported in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, the specific clade involved is unclear, with reports also indicating the presence of clade IIb and other subclades in the region. The outbreak may be part of a larger pattern of mpox virus circulation in central and eastern Africa, with cases and different clades reported in various countries.
